Recession is typically defined as a significant decline in activity, lasting longer than a few months, and always used in relation to the economy. With recess being the root of the word, and meaning “to pause”, can we rightfully say the State of Michigan is going through both an economic and athletic recession? Just as Detroit’s auto industry spent many years prospering before it stalled, isn’t it the same for Michigan’s most popular sports?
As the owners of the 32 NFL teams, I understand how you may feel that we, as the Administration of the NFL, are “toning down the game.” But you’ve got to take into consideration the players safety on this matter. As the NFL has evolved, many rule changes have been put in place. Be it the requirement of pads and helmets, or the rule where if a play is a fumble, but the team is named the Patriots, after a great American tragedy, it is automatically ruled a fumble, we do this for the betterment of the NFL.
First of all, allow me to explain to some and remind others that I’m about as far from being a New York Giants fan as I am from being a fan of Osama Bin Laden, or even worse, a Redskins fan. On top of that, I think that Plaxico Buress is a knucklehead. I’ve yet to decide if the Giants are better off with or without him, but as a Cowboys fan, I’m hoping that whichever state is worse for them, that’s what they get.
An auction keeper league is a very different creature than a straight draft league. Because of the differences, the strategies are vastly unique. Here are Ten strategies to consider:
Join Mark this week as we continue our journey down two separate paths. First, Mitch from cbbplace.com comes back to talk about the Final 4. Since both our brackets are busted it should be rather humbling…Then Mark will preview the MLB season and make his picks for the World Series. Finally, Robert comes on board to talk WRs and TEs in our weekly rundown to the NFL Draft.
There is a subtle distinction between “Sleepers” and “Quiet Superstars”. When an expert is talking about sleepers, he usually mentions players drafted anywhere from the 9th round and beyond. Quiet Superstars are those players that slipped down to about the 3rd to 6th rounds in the draft. Those rounds, in my mind, are the most important part of the draft. In those rounds you are selecting players from pick 25 to 72 and you are hopeful that they will perform in the top 15 in fantasy players. If you can perfect those rounds and get 4 quiet superstars to add to your first two obvious superstars, you will have a winning fantasy team. Here are some of my picks for quiet superstars that can lead your team.
Why is that the driver in the first slot at the start of a race is referred to as “on the pole”? To each his own and I’m no one’s judge, but as a guy, I never want to be accused of being on a pole. But I’m sure someone will answer this question of racing-lexiconic origin for me.
Every NBA team has about 10 games left and while the playoff picture is getting a bit clearer, it is still a more than a tad fuzzy. Four teams in the East (Cavs, Magic, Celtics, Hawks) have clinched playoff berths, but only the Lakers (home-court-clinched) have anything locked-up out West. Following are some of the remaining questions about who will or won’t rise up as the teams drive towards the playoffs…
I’ve written quite a few pieces on draft prospects and their drive to reach the ultimate goal. But this one differs from others, as it doesn’t sustain a vertical march from high school to the NFL doorstep. The story of Robby Felix is one of peaks and valleys, enduring both the highs and lows of the trail. And after overcoming a mild strike just 4 months ago, Felix has pulled himself back to the rugged road, in pursuit of his dreams.
This trip down memory lane takes place my senior year. I was one hundred seventy-one pounds of pure heart and determination. This was MY year. I was going to be the best. Unfortunately, our dreams don’t always come true. Mine did not, at least. I battled a shoulder injury that severely limited my workouts and mobility, costing me at least one match over the course of the season.
