TJ’s Quick Hits: AFC North Edition

Baltimore Ravens

A team that I have the utmost respect for. They play much the same game as my beloved Steelers.

It’s not much fun, because I really don’t have anything bad to say about the Ravens. I could get really cliche and say things to the effect of “Ray Lewis is a murderer,” but that’s no fun, and I love Ray Lewis.

Joe Flacco really reminds me of Ben Roethlisberger in a lot of ways. Like his size, mobility, arm strength and so on. He’s going to be really good.

All this being said, the AFC North is going to be fun to watch for the coming years, simply because of the Ravens-Steelers rivalry. Three games this year and all three were rough on both teams.

The Ravens have the best chance to take the division from the Steelers.

Cincinnati Bengals

Where to start with the Bengals…

They got rid of the best wide receiver on their team, in T.J. Houshmanzadeh. Chad Johnson’s not better than him, no matter what the stat line says. Not to mention the attitude that Johnson brings to the table is a complete turn off no matter the talent.

Looking at the Bengals defense is a lot like looking at some preventable accident that happened to a friend of yours – you know, you probably shouldn’t laugh, but you do anyway.

Keith Rivers could be a great linebacker. You know, if he doesn’t throw a fit about getting his block knocked off by a wide receiver.

Carson Palmer is a good quarterback but seems to be more and more injury prone as time wears on. That’s not entirely his fault though.

Cleveland Browns

Growing up only a short way from Cleveland, I’ve been surrounded by Browns fans for my entire life.

What a great gift that is. As a Steelers fan, I have never ending bragging rights.

I’d just like to point out that I predicted Derek Anderson to be a one year wonder, and I don’t think Brady Quinn’s going to do any better next year, as the Browns got rid of his top offensive threat in Kellen Winslow Jr.

Braylon Edwards has so much athletic ability. Unfortunately, he couldn’t catch flies if he rolled around in a pig pen.

I mean, sure, he’s great for that amazing one handed, reaching back, falling down, doing a handstand, drinking a Pepsi and keeping the feet in bounds catch maybe twice a season, but if you need him to catch that touchdown over the middle, you’d better hit him right between the numbers.

Oh. He drops those too?

Let’s not even get into the Donte Stallworth situation. The Miami Police Department hasn’t confirmed the reports that he was above the legal limit but if he was, he deserves every year he gets in jail.

The Browns defense has a few play makers, to be honest, and they don’t get much credit. Kamerion Wimbley stands out the most in my opinion though, really athletic linebacker.

Pittsburgh Steelers

Growing up just minutes from the Pro Football Hall Of Fame I’ve been surrounded by Steelers memorabilia for my entire life.

See what I did there?

The Steelers are the love of my life. Bar none.

That of course doesn’t mean that I don’t disagree with some of the things that happen within the organization.

Like letting Bryant McFadden walk. I absolutely hated that move.

And the fact that the Rooney’s are seeking new partners for the ownership. That one hurts. A lot.

I’m really glad to see Troy Polamalu returning to form though, and to see James Farrior and Larry Foote playing well despite aging. Though, to be fair, Foote needs to be the backup to Lawrence Timmons.
Besides, Foote came out and said that he wanted to play for the Lions. That automatically dropped him to a special teamer in my mind.

Is there any quarterback tougher than Ben Roethlisberger in the NFL?

Here’s a hint – the answer is no.
