Member Spotlight: Oblong Biscuits

Recently had a chance to talk with our April Member of the Month, OB. He’s funny, he’s witty, and he’s candid. And he’s a Navy Vet.
How did you find SJ?
I can’t be for certain but I believe I was following a mock draft link from walterfootball.com and have been hooked ever since.
How long have you been involved in doing mock drafts?
I used to follow almost all of the sports when I was a teenager, I joined the Navy when I was nineteen and was out of the loop for six or so years (That’s right, I am a God Damned War Hero too) When I was getting out I fell right back into the swing of things. I have been getting more and more into the NFL draft and talent scouting over the past couple of years. Ideally it would be a dream job to be a talent scout… Watch games all day long and get paid…Sweet.

On a scale of 1-10 how would you rate the Bears draft this year…?
I guess I would give it a “C” rating so I am going to call it a 6 or 7. I am fine with the fact they traded out of the second round I think if I was the Bears’ GM I would have tried to do the same. I really like the Jarron Gilbert selection at #68. I really he is worth a lot more than just a great Youtube video.(Guy Jumps out of swimming pool) I am really interested to see how Rod Marinelli utilizes Gilbert, maybe DE. I also like the Juaquin Iglesias with the #99 pick, he should be a more than adequate possession guy they have been missing. I wasn’t very happy with the Bears in the 4th round. Henry Melton seemed like a huge reach to me and both Kyle Moore from USC and my personal favorite Lawrence Sidbury Jr. from Richmond were both still available. I am sure Melton would have been around later in the draft. I guess D.J. Moore was a steal there, even though I think there were better cover corners available, so I can’t complain too much. Johnny Knox was good in the 5th, a burner that maybe can let Devin Hester go back to full time return man. Marcus Freeman should be good to for LB depth even though he is projected as a Will (Weak Side) Backer and their need was a Sam (Strong Side) backer. In a perfect world he could take over for Briggs, kicking him to the middle and that would allow for Urlacher to be bumped to the Strong Side for more of a pass rush, but I don’t see that happening. I Don’t know anything about Al Alfava, Lance Louis or Derek Kinder except for that Ohio’s Mark Parson, Cincinnati’s Trevor Canfield and my main man Clemson’s Aaron Kelly were still available. So yeah I would go 6.
What do you see Cutler bringing to the team?
I don’t think Cutler is going to come right in and give them huge numbers in some Denver like air assault like he did last year. What I do see him doing is making defenses think that he might which in turn will make Matt Forte all that much better. In a couple of years I see Cutler airing it out more and making the Bears’ offense very potent. I will say this though I will do whatever I can to get both Matt Forte and Greg Olson on my fantasy teams this season for sure. “Championship.”

What other sports do you follow?
Like I said before I used to follow darn near all of them and slowly but surely am getting into all them again, except baseball…I still can’t see the allure of that game. Maybe if they let those guys do ‘Roids, or better yet PCP it would be worth my time and energy to tune in.
I am mostly just an NFL/NCAA football guy. I am a Huge fantasy football fan and am pretty good at if I do say so myself. I look forward to putting some stuff together here at the Jabber on that.
I also just got my fat ass back on the golf course after 20 years..I am taking lessons and everything…Pretty stoked about it. I also am looking forward to writing a little bit about my path to Masters as well.
Who is the most overrated player in sports right now?
Without a doubt I would say Matt Cassel. Wes Welker can make any QB look good.
What keeps you coming back to SJ?
You do Deb…you do. I just really like the people here and the vast wealth of knowledge you all put out. I have learned quite a bit about all sorts of things since I have been a Jabberhead…it’s been nice.
What else do you enjoy away from here…away from sports?
I try to call myself a Wood Worker…Making furniture and such…It is mostly crap but hey I do have some pretty slick tools in shop.
I also live in a more rural area making it possible to ride ATV’s and go target shooting right in my back yard.

Last movie you saw?
I saw the new Star Trek in the theatres and was blown away I thought it was great.
Any collections?
I do have a comic book collection, it’s quite large, a couple thousand books, but I stopped all that when I joined the service. It’s for sale if anyone is interested.
There for awhile I also collected pictures of Bowel Movements while I was in the service. Yeah I know…See I was like most other Navy Guys and drank a lot…On a daily basis. And I thought of this get rich quick scheme to make a bowel movement coffee table book…Or maybe one of those flip and rip calendars ( call it like 365 crappy days or something). It never panned out though. So, that collection is for sale too…If anyone is interested.
You add so much here and we’re lucky to have you. Thanks again. And thank you for serving….next thing for you will be a Military Spotlight….
