He’s Alive! Ortiz Blasts 1st Homer in Bo Sox Win

.
40 games, 43 days, and 149 at-bats later David Ortiz finally blasted his first home run of the season. And with that you could see a whole city lift right off his shoulders. Not that Boston fans were unsupportive through this whole dreadful process, but you could tell Big Papi will sleep much easier tonight after just one simple swing of the bat. It was really that type of night at Fenway. The fans didn’t have much time to celebrate Ortiz’ home run considering Jason Bay and Mike Lowell went back to back a few minutes later to cap off a six run inning by the home team.
The captain, Jason Varitek, chipped in two solo shots himself and now has 7 on the season. If you would of told me Jason Varitek would be hitting for a little power after two months of the season I probably would of laughed. His average is still a little low, but you won’t get any complaints from me. If Varitek can continue to call games like he does and sneak in a few long balls from the bottom of the order I will be a happy camper. With all this talk about offense we shouldn’t forget about Brad Penny’s effort. Penny really only had his fastball tonight, but pitched a very solid 6 and 2/3 innings while only giving up two runs.
