The Women’s College World Series

The Women’s College World Series (WCWS) has been played every year since 1982. Beginning with little attraction, and a very small audience, the series has evolved over the years to capture a larger following and higher television ratings.
The western states have dominated the sport, particularly the Pacific 10 conference, and are now represented by three more teams in this year’s WCWS crop, including the reigning champion Arizona State Sun Devils, who enter as a 10-seed. But the rest of the country is catching on and powering up, with the Florida Gators again entering this year’s tournament as the top seed, as they did a year ago.
The most successful softball program in the history of the sport, 10-time champion UCLA, failed to make the field of eight, after unseeded Missouri scored the upset victory in the Super Regionals. UCLA’s exit marks only the second time in 11 years that the Lady Bruins have failed to reach the World Series.
Sports Jabber will bring you complete coverage of the WCWS. If history holds true, it will be another wild and exciting run to the finish, and we’ll keep you updated with scores, advancements, and eliminations, along with the smiles and tears.
