The Miami Dolphins and rookie receiver Patrick Turner have agreed to the terms of a four year contract worth $2.46 million, with $714,000 in guarantees. The deal includes an escalator clause that can push the value to $4 million.

I’ll admit to having early doubts over Patrick Turner being an NFL prospect. He entered USC  with a 5-star recruiting ranking, but failed to live up to the expectations for the majority of his stay. The 6’5 pass catcher possessed the same build as Mike Williams and Dwayne Jarrett, but didn’t have the immediate offensive impact as the others. He caught 10 touchdowns for the Trojans in 2008, but totaled just seven combined in the years prior.

Entering the 2008 season, I felt Turner may be a late round NFL pick, if drafted at all. The breakout performance in his senior season, and a spectacular combine, earned him enough notice that the Dolphins drafted him in the third round. Bill Parcells has assembled a talented group in Miami, and Turner may be the possession receiver they were looking for.
