Donté Stallworth: An Unpunished Athlete

Ladies and gentlemen, the news of this makes me sick. Donté Stallworth played for the Cleveland Browns before he has been suspended for second-degree manslaughter. Let me tell you exactly what happened: On March 14, 2009, Stallworth drove his Bentley and struck and killed a man in Miami Beach, Florida. Apparently, he had been heading to the beach when he hit Mario Reyes, who was 59 years old before he killed him. Guess what? He admitted to be drinking the night before, and was clearly over Florida’s legal limit at the time of the accident.
Stallworth was charged with DUI and second-degree manslaughter on April 1, 2009. He pleaded guilty, and guess how many days he got? 30 days in jail, 1000 hours of community service, 2 years of house arrest, and 8 years probation. Wow, I guess it’s all about the money, because it is said that Stallworth and the Reyes family had reached a financial settlement. This is completely ridiculous. Although the family is the closest to Mario Reyes, they shouldn’t have the right to decide the punishment for this crime.
Completely ridiculous, how much longer will sports athletes be treated above the law? Any average person would be going to jail for decades. Do you find this fair?
