Duke gets All Star nod

Zach Duke is headed to St Loius, As a member of the Pirates.
Duke was named to replace the injured Matt Cain.
Cain was struck neaqr the elbow on his pitching arm with a batted ball.
Duke, when informed last week that Freddie Sanchez would be the Pirates lone All Star, said all the right things. He was happ for Freddie, and went on to say how much Freddie deserved the honor. Duke then added he didnt need to go to St Louis to know that hes had a very good first half.
Well Zach, guess what, you can let out that smile and get te gear packed for St Louis! You’re an All Star.
Duke becomes the first Pirates starter to make the game since Denny Nagle in 1995. The last Pirates Pitcher to be named to the squad was Mike Williams back in 2002 and 2003.
Zach is 8-8 with a 3.29 era. He is third in the league in innings pitched at 126.
“It’s icing on the cake, knowing all the work you put in, to have this kind of recognition,” Duke said. “That’s what it feels like — that you’re being recognized for the work you’ve done across the league.”
When Pirates manager John Russell called Duke into his office at Citizens Bank Park on Sunday morning to deliver the news
“I thought, ‘Uh-oh, what did I do?’” Duke said. “But it turned out to be a pretty welcome surprise.”
