Comparing McNair and McNabb to Moon

Warren Moon is in the HOF. We all know that, but what most people are saying is: McNabb and McNair aren’t HOFers. That’s fine. But if Warren Moon is in the HOF, McNabb and McNair should be, too. Here’s why.
When you look at these QBs, you notice something. A lack of success in the completion percentage. Steve McNair has everyone beat in the completion percentage, with a 60.1 CPCT, this is followed by McNabb in 2nd. then Moon
Looking at the QB rating, McNabb leads both(86.4), with McNair coming in 2nd(82.8), then Moon(80.9).
Looking at how many TDs they have to INTs:
McNabb is the clear front runner, with 104 more TDs than INTs.
McNair and Moon are very close, with Moon having 58 more, and McNair having 55 more.
Next, I’m going to look at the averages that each QB threw an INT
McNair threw an INT every( on average ) 38.1 attempts.(I’m using the .1′s and etc just to be 100% accurate)
McNabb threw an INT every( on average ) 47.8 attempts
Moon threw an INT every( on average ) 29.2 attempts.
Next, as the best way to measure how good their o-lines were without going year-by-year, how often they were sacked.
McNair(sacked 254 times over 13 years) was sacked on average 19.5 times a season.
McNabb(sacked 322 times over 10 years) was sacked on average 32.2 times a season
Moon(Sacked 458 times over 17 years) was sacked on average 26.9(27, basically) times a season.
Now I do understand that these are very rough numbers as it doesn’t factor in games missed, but this is the best way I can do it without going year-by-year on each team.
I’m not going to go over each person’s career, but I’ve pointed out in other threads that McNair has been more clutch than McNabb, so we know that much. I’m not going to guarantee it, but I’m almost certain McNair would win in the 4th quarter clutch department.
Now, I don’t believe I’ve missed anything too important. I guess I could factor in the TD per attempt, but that’s kind of silly( though I guess the sack thing was, too ).
But when looking over these stats, I don’t see how it’s possible to rank them any other than:
1. McNabb
2. McNair
3. Moon
Now, it could be argued that Moon played longer, resulting in worse stats by a minor amount. But here’s the thing. If you just took Moon’s first 13 years, he’d still have 208 INTs, and only 254 of his TDs, which then is only good enough for 46 more TDs than INTs.
In McNair’s favor, you could argue he was basically ALWAYS on the injury report, almost never playing a healthy game past mid-season of 1999. I personally don’t consider any of these 3 QBs to be HOFers. McNabb could be there at the end of his career, but not right now. But if you’re going to put in Moon, McNair and McNabb have to go in as well.
Like I’ve mentioned, I don’t believe McNair or McNabb are HOFers. However, I don’t see how you can let someone that is actually worse than them in the HOF, yet reject them. It makes no real sense at all.
PS: I wonder if GA_Eagle has seen this before. ![]()
He’ll get it if no one else does.
