The Philadelphia Flyers bolstered their defense with another addition on Thursday as they signed unrestricted free agent Ole-Kristian Tollefsen to a one-year contract worth $600,000.

Four days ago, Anthony SanFilippo reported that they were going to sign him pending a physical. It was then known that he passed his physical yesterday, which he took on Saturday.

Tollefsen, a 25-year-old native of Oslo, Norway, had one assist and 37 penalty minutes in 19 games last year, missing 39 regular season games and four playoff games due to injury. He’s just the fifth Norwegian-born player to play in the NHL.

He plays a rough, physical game and is willing to drop the gloves with anyone. Tollefsen will be a gamble considering his two knee surgeries in the past year.

The Flyers signing of Tollefsen likely marks the end of Randy Jones’ career in Philadelphia as rumors have been flying around that he is being shopped. At a cap hit of $2.75, Jones will be tough to move but he’s a solid enough to defenceman to fetch a draft pick.

If Jones is on his way out, that likely means that the Flyers will look to add another forward who can put the puck in the net. Petr Sykora is believed to be the target, however Miroslav Satan and Todd Bertuzzi have been floating around the water cooler.
