In the Baltimore Orioles organization, three names stand out in the minor leagues. Each one has individually aided in placing the tag of “No. 1 farm system in baseball” on the Birds.
This trio consists of lefty Brian Matusz and righties Chris Tillman and Jake Arrieta.
And really, what’s the point anymore?
Of course, the source here is ProFootballTalk.com, which could mean a variety of things have actually occurred, such as:
1. Alex Mack is on a plane headed back to California.
2. Donte Stallworth accidentally spiked Mack.
3. Eric Mangini has placed Mack on the Secret Reserve Doghouse List.
4. Hank Fraley swallowed his own fist.
It’s been a while since I did my weekly Ten Top Ten lists which are featured here at Bleacher Report every Sunday during College Football season. Time to get warmed up.
Ten Things I Won’t Miss After The Season Kicks Off
1. Lane Kiffin Articles-This subject got tired about three days after he took the job.
2. “We’re Gonna”-Soon it will be time to actually do.
Every time someone pitches a perfect game, everyone realizes what a tremendous, albeit lucky feat it is.
When I say lucky, I don’t mean just plain luck, I mean universal luck. All the planets have to be at their appropriate place, and the stars have to be at their brightest.
How many games have there been? I don’t have the time or patience to do the research, but someone said it was near 400,000. Using that as a figure and knowing that Mark Buehrle just pitched the 18th perfect game in history, let’s do the math.
Top 10 PKs
1. Stephen Gostkowski, Patriots
2. David Akers, Eagles
3. Ryan Longwell, Vikings
4. Rob Bironas, Titans
5. Nick Folk, Cowboys
6. Mason Crosby, Packers
7. Neil Rackers, Cardinals
8. Nate Kaeding, Chargers
We have a saying around here when stuff starts to get stale.
Blah, Blah, Blah.
Anyway, since Toronto Blue Jays GM J.P. Ricciardi still hasn’t heard any tasty offers for staff ace Roy Halladay, he has set a July 28th deadline to complete a deal.
The 2003 Cy Young Award winner, who is signed through 2010 and has no-trade clause power at his fingertips, is 11-3 on the season with a 2.73 ERA and 113 strikeouts. Ricciardi won’t let on as to exactly how many proposals he’s received for Halladay, but he claims there’s been “enough.”
Winning a National Title is the goal of just about every team in the country. While many very good teams have won National Titles, only the truly great teams go undefeated in their journey to hoisting the trophy.
As seemingly every season reaches the final month, we start to hear arguments and campaigning by groups of teams pleading their case to play in the big game. While it has happened that undefeated teams have been on the outside looking in come title game time, in most cases going undefeated will get you in.
Truly, I think the Spurs deserve a lot of hype for what they have done in the off-season so far, but more people are focusing on bogus nonsense of the deals involving Ron Artest, Shaquille O’Neal, and Shawn Marion. Come on, give a little love to what the Indiana Pacers, Toronto Raptors, Memphis Grizzlies, and of course, the Spurs have done, too.
Alex Mack Likely to Sign; Other Picks Not Close
So, remember all that nonsense I wrote exactly one morning ago, suggesting that the Browns signing of Alex Mack could be complicated by the players selected around him in April? No? Well, good. It wasn’t important, anyway.
The Browns talked deep into Thursday night to try to close a deal with No. 1 pick Alex Mack. An agreement with the center from the University of California is expected to be completed Friday.
Color me impressed. Mark Buehrle has just thrown the 18th perfect game in major league history.
The Chicago White Sox left-hander tossed 116 pitches and got six Tampa Bay Rays to strike out, but the perfection really came down to one moment: ..
