In a inspiring game with over 200 kids rooting them on, the Maryland Sting would shutout the Maryland Colts 29-0. The Sting playing this game for charity, would allow all fans to attend this game for free. WR Kaleem Frazier had 2 touchdown receptions, and TE Daniel Szabo and WR Kareem Hayes would also catch touchdown passes. The star of the defense was LB Brendon Ireton who would have a interception and a fumble recovery.

This game was a great turn around for Ron Meehan’s offensive unit. Despite only scoring 3 points last week Meehan had his unit do a 360 turnaround on offense, by scoring 29 points. ” This week we went back to what we do best, spread every body out, run the ball and throw the ball” said offensive coordinator Ron Meehan. Ron also said that after watching the film from last weekend everything was good, the offense just didnt run the right hole and should have blocked a little longer.

And when you have a former All-American QB as your offensive coordinator, things are always good for the Sting. Sting head coach Bryan Milburn would take over as defensive coordinator for this game for Joe Taylor who was out of town, and boy would Coach Milburn make a statement by pitching a shutout!* ” We did some things, just basic football knowledge 101 that we didnt do last week, and I got to play defensive coordinator this week, I got my first shutout” said Coach Milburn reffering to the defensive turnaround from last week.

I talked to the star of the defense after the game. “After last week we just wanted to come out and prove that wasnt us last week, we just wanted to come out and play tougher this week, and show the rest of the league that wasnt us” said Brendon Ireton. And the defense would prove last week was nothing more than a fluke.

The real story line to this game would be after the game. Hundreds of kids would crowd the field getting autographs from there Sting football heroes.” I love playing out here, I wish we could play here all the time, its always good to play out here and have the kids watch” said offensive star Kaleem Frazier. I also caught up with middle linebacker Carl King who was signing autographs after the game, and was happy to have got to played at Cunion Field. ” This is the first time I ever played here, this atmosphere here…is awesome! With the fans, the lights and announcements, the music, it lets you be A on your game, because you know everybody is watching” said Carl King.

To me one of the inspiring stories of the night was #64 Jon Travers. He is the guy who made the Sting roster as a offensive lineman, despite having played*NO*football in 7 years. The kids were mobbed around him after the game, with autograph requests. I asked Travers how did it feel signing autographs tonight? ” I dont feel validated for that yet, it felt extremely weird” said Travers.* After that we asked ” The Longshot” how does it feel getting back on the field? ” Its fantastic, its fun getting out there and hitting some people..again” said Travers.

It was a special night for the Maryland Sting and there fans at Cunion Field. To see the look on these *kids faces when they got autographs from the Sting players is so priceless…it should be featured on a MasterCard commercial. Sting head coach Bryan Milburn also added some special words about how great it was to play at Cunion Field. ” I been looking forward to this game forever, because this is where we started. The people here have been nothing short of just amazing to us. If I could I would play all my games here, we have music and its just the fan base, we had 800 people here tonight” said Coach Milburn.

And last but not least I felt it would be a tragedy if I didnt interview the closer for all of my Sting stories at the National Sports Review. I had to interview special teams coach Michael Ciesielski. ” Redemption brother…Redemption! We played pretty solid, we made some mistakes in the first half, and we came back and corrected them at halftime, all in all it feels good to win, we got a shutout” said Ciesielski. I told Ciesielski to end my story with a quote. He said ” Sting to the Ring”!! Could this be the season where he gets that elusive championship ring? Stay tuned!!
