Brian Westbrook spent all day today, and will spend all day tomorrow, undergoing tests to see exactly what happened and how severe his concussion is that he suffered in Monday night’s game thanks to the knee of London Fletcher.

Many are saying that there’s a very slim chance that Westbrook actually plays this Sunday, but coach Reid is singing a different tune. In fact, he says that he is “counting on that (Westbrook) [will] be there, but we’ll see how the tests go.”

Coming off a concussion that left Westbrook motionless and unconscious in the middle of the field, just the fact that Reid has a glimmer of hope that Westy might play says a lot. Of course, if we know anything about NFL head coaches, it could mean nothing at all.

Reid could simply be saying that Westbrook could play just to give the Giants something extra to worry about. Just the possibility that he might play gives the Giants and their defense something extra to plan and study for.

We probably won’t know until closer to Thursday or Friday when the tests are done and to see if he actually practices or not. Of course, no practice for Westbrook by no means rules him out for the game on Sunday.

If Westbrook does have to sit, the starting nod will go to LeSean McCoy, and we could even see some Eldra Buckley for the first time outside of garbage time. Buckley could come in hand against a physical team like the Giants because of his hard-nosed, mow-’em-over mentality.

The real question is, if Westbrook sits, are we going to see some carries for Leonard Weaver or was he just brought in to shut the fans up about getting a fullback?
