Brian Gray: Sixers Win 2nd In A Row

Hip Hop Hooray-Ho, Hay-Ho! The Sixers are on a two game win streak on the west coast and it seems to feel rather good! Philadelphia went into Sacramento tonight and really out played the likes of the Kings in a 116-106 win. Allen Iverson and Louis Williams, the two guard tandem led the way for the Sixers by scoring 20 and 22 points respectively. Was that all? Nope, you bet it wasn’t.
The Sixers were down 28-17 after the first quarter, but that didn’t seem to stop them from coming back and out scoring the Kings in the next three quarters. When you’re a Sixers fan, I bet most of you will agree that is an awesome feeling knowing the Philly Faithful did not lay down and sulk their wounds. Instead, Andre Iguodala posted another healthy stat line with 19 points, seven rebounds and nine assists. The team’s stat lines matched up pretty well with the Sixers actually losing the rebound battle and also the assist column. But, there is a stunning stat that I’ve been looking for the past week or two that I think is vital to the success of this group. Can you guess?
Okay, I’ll tell you. Three point shooting ladies and gentleman will win you ball games! The Sixers put together a very smooth shooting performance from the land of plenty, going 9-for-16 with a 56.2% rating. Cha-Ching please! The Sixers made the same amount of field goals as the Kings did on this night, but the ability to drain three more treys than the opponent gave the Sixers a cushion. God I love the long ball. Also, let’s give it up for the hidden hero tonight who came off the bench to score 14 big ones, Rodney Carney. Glad to see the athletic swing man get some 15 minutes of action or so and be able to produce in the second straight win. Also, here’s a tally you may like to see, he shot 4-for-5 from beyond the arc. Keep it up and you shall see more minutes, Sir Carney.
On the Kings’ side of the arena, Dante Green and Omar Casspi were the high point scorers with 21 a piece. The Kings also played without starting point guard, Tyreke Evans due to a sprained ankle and also Kevin Martin, Sean May and Francisco Garcia did not play due to coach’s decision/nick knack injuries. Oh so the Sixers didn’t get a full dose of the Kings right? A win is a win and that’s how it stands in the W/L columns baby. Andres Nocioni was held in check most of the evening and only went for 8 points after showing his long range abilities much of the early part of this season.
Game Notes:
- Thaddeus Young and Elton Brand were the other two double-digit scorers with 11 and 14.
- Iverson, Iguodala, and Williams combined for 110:12 of action on the night.
- Iguodala, Young, and Sammy “D” Dalembert each had seven total rebounds.
- The Sixers were able to create 11 steals as a team compared to Sacramento’s five.
- Finally, THE SIXERS WIN!
PEACE FROM THE 570!
