Nick Coviello: PATRIOTS/RAVENS PREVIEW! But not really.

Fuck. Shit. God dammit. MAYBE? …Balls.

WHAT’S WITH THE OBSCENE, INAPPROPRIATE TITLE, GG5!?!?! Well, those six words will make up my vocabulary for this Sunday’s Patriots/Ravens game. Being a young Patriots fan, I haven’t had to use those words a lot. Just a lot recently. I mean seriously, from dynasty to two straight choke jobs and two straight ACL/MCL season ending injuries? Fuck? Now, I may be just a natural born pessimist, but the Patriots have looked FAR from a Super Bowl caliber team this year and now going into the playoffs without the team’s MVP? Me no has good feeling.

Remember the last time the Patriots faced a team with a Ravens-like defense without Wes Welker? Oh yeah…that was the game the Patriots didn’t score a touchdown, lost to the Jets and…Edelman dropped a key pass that killed a would-be touchdown drive. Sure, Brady was still getting back into form…but won’t his NFL-lead amount of injuries knock him back down to that level? Not to mention it seems like he’s made a very un-Brady-like play every other game this year. (How about that interception that basically sealed the Texans win last week?) NOT TO MENTION NOT TO MENTION the fact that Moss is going to be covered worse than the post-Nor’Easter fields in New England come this weekend. “OH! BUT BALTIMORE MIGHT STRUGGLE WITH THE CONDITIONS!!!” Please. A physical, defense first, team like the Ravens? Oh, did I mention they’re from Baltimore? They’ve got enough elements to battle down there besides snow. Oh, did I mention Rice and McGahee might be running against a Wilfork and Warren-less line? Oh, did I mention that Laurence Maroney, for some INSANE reason, hasn’t seen the field since fumbling on the goal line thus throwing off his good run? Oh, did I mention the Ravens will be out for blood after the last match-up wound up? Oh, did I mention I’m not too optimistic about this game?

So what’s the “MAYBE?” Easy. Somehow, someway, the Patriots always make it interesting. Whether it be coming back at the last second, or blowing a 4th quarter lead and having to fend off a comeback. Even my level of pessimism isn’t strong enough to realize that even without Welker, Brady still has guys like Edelman, Faulk, Moriss, Aiken (that is, if he’s still living after that little baby hit he took Sunday), and if worse comes to worst…Slater and Stanback, LOL. ****. Also, the defense is very capable…they just need to learn to stick around for the 4th quarter. And no matter how many people say Flacco and co. have a dangerous air game…I’ll never be concerned. But that’s just me being closed-minded.

Which brings us to “Balls.” Yeah. Kind of self explanatory. I don’t think the Patriots will win. I’ve seen the choke jobs from the past couple of years. I’ve seen the 4th quarter melt downs. I’ve seen the Patriots offense without Welker.

But I will also have seen worse losses.

Ravens 24 Patriots 23
