Orlando Cabrera Thinking About Joining The Cincinnati Reds

According to Ken Rosenthal , free agent infielder Orlando Cabrera has limited his choice to the Cincinnati Reds and Colorado Rockies.

Cabrera would be a true shot in the arm if the Reds could sway him to come to the Queen City. He is a proven hitter, sporting a .275 lifetime average.

Cabrera is a traveling man having played for six teams in his 13 year career. He played with the Oakland A’s last season before being traded to the Minnesota Twins in midseason.

The Reds would employ him as a shortstop, a position which is currently manned by light-hitting Paul Janish.

The Reds wouldn’t lose anything defensively either, Cabrera having won a Gold Glove while with the Montreal Expos in 2001 and in 2007 with the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Cabrera’s best offensive year was 2007 when he batted .301 with 8 HR and 86 RBI. He also scored 101 runs and had 192 hits.

I don’t speak for the Reds organization, but to me that would be a real acquisition. Cincinnati would have an infield that could match those of most other squads
