Julius Peppers’ Days As A Panther Seem To Be Numbered

With issues on offense and a presumingly lame duck head coach, one would think that the Carolina Panthers would be fighting to hang on to any talent they can. But it seems that they are letting, arguably, the most talented player on the roster walk.

According to Peppers’ agent, Carl Carey, the Panthers haven’t contacted them since the end of the regular season. And he believes that Peppers will be allowed to become an unrestricted free agent.

“I initiated communication with the organization shortly after the season ended,” Peppers’ agent, Carl Carey, told the Observer. “They informed me they would make contact the following week and they never did.

“To date, we still have not heard from them. They are definitely giving Julius the silent treatment, but sometimes silence actually tells you more than words do. We can only conclude that they have moved on.”

Carey said the lack of communication is a marked difference from a year ago, when he said the two sides were in frequent contact despite Peppers’ stated desire to play elsewhere.

“This time, there is nothing,” said Carey. “There is no talk about a long-term deal, there’s no, ‘we’re going to tag him.’ There’s no doubt in my mind. They’ve moved on.”

Looks like the Panthers have settled on going into rebuild mode. Probably the best decision seeing as though they need a facelift at multiple positions. Most importantly, quarterback.
