The Cowboys: The Good, The Bad, The Ugly

What were the good, the bad, and the ugly of the Dallas Cowboys this past season? NFL.com presented their thoughts and where they thought the Cowboys would need. I will present their ideas, but I will also add my thoughts here. Here is a link, NFL
The Good. NFL.com presented Miles Austin as their good. I do agree completely on their choice. Where would the Cowboys go if he didn’t break out like he did in the Kansas City Chiefs game?
My choice would have to be the improved play of Tony Romo. The game against the New York Giants in the stadium opener looked like the Romo we didn’t want to see. Three interceptions in one game, are you kidding me? But he vowed after that game to improve in taking care of the ball and playing smarter. After that game he only had six interceptions. He also became more of a vocal leader of the team.
The Bad: The Cowboys secondary was the selection for the NFL.com. Despite the improved play of Mike Jenkins who lead the team with five interceptions, the team as a whole only had 11 interceptions. The defensive front seven provided the pressure, but the secondary could not turn it into turnovers to help in the field position for the offense.
The Ugly: I completely agree about Roy Williams as their choice here. Is it possible that maybe next season he could go from the ugly duckling to an actual receiver?
The ugly for me as well would be field goal kicking. I think as a whole, the NFL suffered in field goal kicking. Nick Folk’s reliability suffered when he had his worst season, and Suisham wasn’t much better.
Where do they go from here? The Cowboys threw away the malaise of December and January by going 3-2 in the regular season. They won their first playoff game since 1996. So there is still room for improvement.
The Cowboys still have to look at Robert Brewster, Stephen Hodge, and Brandon Williams from last years draft due to them being injured. The Cowboys still have to sign their free agents, see what’s available in free agency and the draft.
I expect to see them go for depth in the offensive line, safety, and defensive line depth. The Cowboys have every opportunity now to go further next season. I believe in this team and hope they do go all the way!
