Wednesday’s Three Stars: Bourque ignites Flames; Devs sweep

No. 1 Star: Rene Bourque, Calgary Flames
The Flames had lost two straight while chasing the Detroit Red Wings for the No. 8 seed in the West. They had lost six straight to the Avalanche. That’s the context for Calgary’s impressive, clutch victory on the road, 3-2 over the Avs. Bourque scored on a shorthanded breakaway in the first period and later gave the Flames a 3-0 lead with a power-play goal in the second. He now has 22 goals on the season.
No. 2 Star: Jonas Hiller, Anaheim Ducks
The Ducks won an intense, controversial game against the Chicago Blackhawks, 4-2, thanks to a 39-save effort from Hiller. He stopped 15 shots in the third period and stood on his head a few times during the game. The Ducks won the season series with Chicago, 3-1.
