NCAA Tourney: Day Two

If your bracket is not completely busted hopefully you can enjoy day two of the tourney.  Day one almost wore me out by the end of the night with the San Diego St missed three pointer, a failed upset pick of mine, then Wake Forest knocked out Texas.  That was the theme yesterday, there always seemed to be at least two highly intriguing games going on at once, and the tourney opened with quite possibly the best trio of games ever to open.

Old Dominion edged Notre Dame by a point, BYU outlasted Florida in double overtime, and Villanova along with the refs beat Robert Morris in overtime.  WHEW!  By 2pm CST I was already worn out.

I would think the upsets will dwindle in day two but there are several games even “experts” are picking as upset candidates

  • Siena-Purdue, I picked Purdue due to Sienna getting too much love for my liking.
  • Cornell-Temple, I picked Temple for similar reasons to go along with the fact I will take scholarship athletes from Philly over Ivy leaguers.  It goes back to something I heard years ago, you cannot go too far in college sports with 4car garage kids, Ivy league teams are filled with this type of player.
  • Texas A&M-Utah State, I picked A&M because I thought the Big 12 was the best conference, I like Kansas, Kansas State and Baylor so I went against the upset and for the conference.
  • To go along with those games we still have three 7-10 games, two 4-13, another 5-12, and still a 6-11.  More upsets could be coming.

Every year a tourney theme develops and day one showed that theory could be:  Big East is Overrated.  The Marquette game was forgivable as that was an even game going in, but Georgetown was inexcusable.  They were inconsistent at times during the season and that was a poor performance after the Big East tourney run.  After yesterday, anyone with Syracuse, Villanova or West Virginia going to the final four have to be a little nervous about how good the conference actually was.  I have Syracuse and after yesterday that second round matchup of Florida State or Gonzaga looks much tougher now.

Another theme, Jimmer Freddette is a lot of fun to watch!
