2010 NFL Draft: Breaking Down the Cleveland Browns First Five Picks

first
To say that the 2010 NFL Draft has been a surprise would be an extreme understatement.

The first round of the draft featured the most trades in NFL draft history, and rounds two and three were not far behind.

After the first three selections in the NFL draft, the rest of the
picks have been a bit of a mystery, with the Cleveland Browns adding to
that suspense.

After weeks of speculation on who they would take, talks of moving up
and selecting Sam Bradford first overall, and more smokescreens then
the city of Cleveland has seen since its industrial days…the first
three rounds of picks are over.

So let’s take a look at who will be wearing Brown and Orange next season!

7) Joe Haden, CB, Florida
Surprise No. 1…the Cleveland Browns select University of Florida
Cornerback Joe Haden with the seventh overall pick in round one.

After months of debating whether or not Joe Haden was worthy of a top
ten selection, the Cleveland Browns bring in the “best cover corner in
college football”.

Many people were quick to write off Haden as a possibility after the
Browns traded for 31 year old Sheldon Brown and gave him a contract
extension.

But in the words of Lee Corso….Not so fast my friend!

Haden has been compared to some of the elite cover corners in the game
of football, and since the Browns couldn’t find a taker to trade down,
they went the safe route and took Haden.

Many people will say that Earl Thomas should have been the pick here,
but with questions about his size and lack of a true position, he fell
to Seattle at No. 14.

Haden will bring his strong coverage abilities and quick acceleration to a team in desperate need of help in their secondary.

He was their first upgrade to the secondary, but he won’t be the last.
