When looking at the Miami Dolphins’ 2010 NFL Draft, you have to take a few things into consideration. The Miami Dolphins spent their 2nd round pick this year on wide receiver Brandon Marshall. Marshall is arguably one of the top 3-5 receivers in the league and will instantly help out young quarterback Chad Henne.

Originally entering the draft, Miami was owner of the 12th overall selection. Wanting back into the second round, Dolphins traded their pick to San Diego. Here’s how that deal looked:

San Diego gets:
#12 overall: RB Ryan Mathews
#110 overall: S Darrell Stuckey
#173 overall: SD traded this selection to San Francisco

Miami gets:
#28 overall
#40 overall
#126 overall
LB Tim Dobbins

With that trade, even before their first selection, Miami added to players that would play crucial parts in the team’s future. With the addition of Brandon Marshall providing an offensive playmaker, the wide receiver need had been filled. Tim Dobbins is a solid player that adds depth to an inside linebacking corps. consisting of Karlos Dansby and Channing Crowder. Dobbins will also help immediately on special teams.

1st round, #28 overall, the Miami Dolphins select -

Jared Odrick, DE, Penn State

With Mike Nolan as the new defensive coordinator, the Miami Dolphins are installing a new defensive scheme. A hyrbid, attacking defense that will ask for more penetration in the middle. With that in mind, the Dolphins have plans to play Randy Starks as their nose tackle, adding a pass rushing threat from the position. Odrick is a big body, strong and quick off the snap. Quick to the punch and has the size to move his man to either side and attack the ball. Odrick is solid in all aspects. He’s a hard worker with a relentless motor. Leader in the locker room with great eye for the game. Instinctive along the defensive line, although may lack lateral quickness.
