More Long Balls as Dbacks Win Series Over Phillies

As I discussed Friday night, the Arizona Diamondbacks are getting real good at living and dying by the home run.  They did it again today, as the Dbacks managed to score five of their eight runs via the long ball, thanks to a two-run homer by Kelly Johnson and a three-run homer by Mark Reynolds.  Both Johnson and Reynolds now have seven homers apiece.  Might we see a duel throughout the season?

Honestly, it makes no difference how the Dbacks score as long as they do.  They struggled to score a little on Saturday night in a 3-2 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies.  Sunday, they took their second game of the series 8-6.  It was their first series win since opening week against the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Besides the home runs, it was the bullpen doing it’s job Friday night and Sunday.  The bullpen did blow a 2-2 tie lat in Saturday’s game.  Reliever Chad Qualls got final out on Friday and pitched a scoreless ninth on Sunday to secure the win.  It is nice to see and hopefully a trend that continues.

Now the Dbacks are off on an 11-game road trip starting tomorrow night in Denver against the Rockies.
