Both the Big Ten conference and the conference television network are located here in Chicago; a city home (by a very great measure) to the largest alumni base for all 11 schools. So it makes sense that the Chicago Bandits softball franchise would include a large number of Big Ten [...]
For brief moments during the Lenox Industrial Tools 301 there were a few drivers that had their moment of dominance. In the end, though, it was Jimmie Johnson that once again went to victory lane.
Pole-sitter
In 2008 Isaac Bruce, who had played for the Los Angeles (’94)/St. Louis Rams for fourteen seasons, was released by the franchise. “No worries,” I quietly thought, “the Rams will re-sign him just like they did in 2006 when they released him that year to restructure his contract!”
Subsequently the San Francisco 49ers signed Bruce to a two-year deal. Upon hearing [...]
After watching Kobe Bryant hoist his fifth NBA Championship as a Los Angeles Laker, one thing stood out in his finals performance.
Bryant doesn’t quit.
If LeBron James watched this game from the comfort of his 25,000 square foot mansion, I hope he took notes.
Game Seven was far from a masterpiece for Mr. Bryant.
He was 6-24 [...]
UPDATE: June 29, 2010. Interleague play is over. Once again, the AL dominated (134-118), which they have done for 6 out of the last 7 years. As regards the contenders, some notes first, especially in light of the uneven level of difficulty in the interleague schedule:

Plus, Mark will talk about the other major stories in sports while Ben will keep you up to date with everything [...]
Unwilling to to sit back and watch USC hoard all the media attention this summer, three incoming UCLA recruits were arrested for an on-campus incident.
The perpetrators were incoming freshmen Paul Richardson, Shaquille Richardson, and Josh Shirley. All three are facing felony theft charges, with two of the young men released on $20,000 bail[...]
Dwayne Bowe has been a member of the Kansas City Chiefs since he was Drafted in the First Round of the 2007 Draft, 23rd pick overall. Drawing comparisons to Hines Ward, Bowe was considered one of the best WR’s available in the 2007 Draft. He went over the next two years to prove that speculation was correct, as no other player selected in the 2007 NFL Draft topped his reception tally, and in the 2007-2008, only Detroit’s WR Calvin Johnson had more receiving yards than Bowe.
For the second time in a row, the lowly African country of Ghana has knocked the United States out of the World Cup.
On a day when Americans were hoping for celebration, given all the speculation about how clear their path could be to the semi-finals, they suffered their first defeat (and incidentally last as well) [...]
There’s something about a grown man who calls himself Billy…
But a closer who records 400 career saves can call himself whatever he wants in our book. Billy Wagner earned that right Friday evening after saving the Atlanta Braves’ 3-1 win over the Detroit Tigers. This marks his 15th save of the season, highlighted by a 5-0 record and an impressive 1.19 ERA.
Wagner, who saved his first big league game back in 1996 with the Houston Astros
