National League MVP: Joey Votto, 1B, Cincinnati Reds

Votto has had a monster first half. He leads the National League with his 22 home-runs, .417 on-base percentage, and .595 slugging percentage. He’s also 5th in the NL with his 60 RBI’s and .314 average. He can do it all. He gets on base, drives in runs, and has given his fair share of souvenirs. Still scratching my head of why he was originally left off of the All-Star squad.

American League MVP: Miguel Cabrera, 1B, Detroit Tigers

Like Votto, Cabrera has done it all. He leads the American league with his astonishing .347 average and 73 RBI’s, tied for the lead with 26 doubles, he’s second with his .424 on-base percentage, and third with his 21 dingers. Yes, you read those numbers right. Cabrera is without a doubt the first-half American League MVP.

National League Cy Young: Josh Johnson, Florida Marlins

I’m not big on wins. You can give up one run and still be handed a loss because you’re team can’t score. Even though an 9-3 record is nothing near Ubaldo Jimenez’s 15-1 record, the stats prove Johnson deserves this award. Johnson’s 1.70 ERA and 0.96 WHIP are the lowest in the National League and his 123 strike-outs are the third-highest in the NL. Johnson is at or near the top of every category that matters the most, which makes me give him the NL Cy Young Award.

American League Cy Young: Cliff Lee, Seattle Mariners

The Texas Rangers are going to be very happy if Lee keeps this up. Like Johnson, he has the lowest ERA and WHIP with 2.34 and 0.95 respectively. His strikeouts haven’t been Cy Young numbers, but he holds his own. You can’t pass up the leader in ERA and WHIP which makes me give him the nod.

National League Rookie of the Half-Year: Buster Posey, C, San Francisco Giants

In his first two games of 2010, Posey made it clear he would win this award. He was 6-9 with two doubles and four RBI’s and hasn’t let up. Posey is batting .336 with 40 hits, 20 RBI’s, and six home-runs in 35 games. Monster numbers. You can’t question that Posey has been the best rookie in the National League this season.

American League Rookie of the Half-Year: Brennan Boesch, OF, Detroit Tigers

This award is basically between Boesch and teammate Austin Jackson, but I give Boesch the nod. He’s batting .341 with 12 home-runs, 47 RBI’s and 79 hits in 62 games. By the end of the year, this will basically the rookie of the Tigers award.

Manager of the Half-Year: Bud Black, San Diego Padres

If you would have said at the beginning of the year that the Padres would be first in the NL West by the All-Star break, you’re probably a Padres fan. Last year the Padres finished 20 games behind the NL West champ Dodgers with a mere 75 wins and under .500. As of now, the Padres are only 15 games behind last season’s mark and lead the NL West. Who would have guessed?
