Why does MLB suck?

First, let me say I don’t hate MLB, in fact when I was a young man (I’m 44 now), I loved the major league game. I ate, drank and slept baseball. And right up until 1994 I loved baseball.
Some of my fondest memories of my late grandfather (God rest his soul) are of us watching Ranger and Yankee games together. We rooted for the Rangers and always rooted against the Yankees. My second favorite team was the one that beat the Yankees.
So what happened to make me change my opinion of my beloved sport? Scandal? Sure, but it’s not like baseball hadn’t already had its fair share of scandal prior to 1994. Anyone can look it up on the internet and learn about baseball’s scandals. Baseball really did have a scandalous past prior to 1994 and yet, I loved it. So what did in baseball for me? As a child I didn’t read the newspaper and we didn’t have ESPN. The bad publicity just wasn’t hammered down my throat as a child. I blissfully continue to love baseball in ignorance of any scandals that may have been happening at the time.
And so… comes 1994. MLB strike. Day after day after day after day of ESPN coverage of the game I thought I loved. I finally had to stop watching. I was mad at both sides for taking my game away from me. When baseball finally did come back, I did not come back to baseball. Since that time, the steroid era has only crystalized my harsh opinion on the game. Truth be told, the Rangers didn’t give me much reason to come back to baseball either, lol. I do like the sport, and I want to like MLB, but it’s just not the same. And now… my dear ole Rangers are threatening me with a good time. And again I’m tempted to pay attention. Maybe this will be their year, I’d hate to miss it.
But no, the Yankee’s A-Rod (ex-Ranger) hits home run #600 and I’m suddenly reminded…MLB sucks. Does anyone else have a similar experience? I think maybe it might be time to give it another chance. MAYBE.
The pennant race is on!
