Kiss The Rim: Nets Score in Acquiring Vujacic

Under new reigns this season as Avery Johnson tries to right the once sunken ship, the New Jersey Nets picked up Sasha Vujacic from the Los Angeles Lakers. Vujacic had sort of an up and down six year tenure with the Lakers, but was able to win Championships. He may not be the 15-20 point guard who got significant minutes, but look at where he was playing. The Lakers had and still do have a lot of talent and depth that usually carries them deep into the playoffs every year. Vujacic played his role during his stay in Los Angeles, and now look to see more and more production as he settles in his new home.
The one asset that Vujacic always had and was most notable to me was his ability to frustrate other players on the defensive end of the floor. He steps up and is willing to guard the other team’s best player and will badger and sometimes shut them down. Point blank, the guy has no fear. Pairing that with a quick first step and an uncanny ability to knock down open threes, Vujacic can thrive alongside guys like Devin Harris, Brooke Lopez and big time rookie, Derrick Favors. Also, take note that Vujacic is listed at 6’7”, so match up problems against smaller guards can be used as a nice advantage.
Slowly, but surely the Nets are starting to climb back into the realm. They have won two out of their last three with a nice home win on Sunday against Atlanta. Look for Vujacic to provide that extra punch and toughness when the Nets take the floor heading into the thick of this young NBA season.
