Complete 2011 Mock Draft for the Cleveland Browns

Looking at the new Browns organization 2 things really stand out.
1) This group is wholly committed to the West Coast Offense and to making Colt McCoy a successful QB.
2) Their commitment to the 3-4 defense on the other hand is highly suspect. Dick Jauron is the favorite to take over as DC. He is a lifelong 4-3 guy.
So for my first big Mock draft shocker, I think the Browns are going to ignore their front 7 in the draft. Maybe they take a flier on Casey Matthews in the 4th but it just seems like too much of a gamble. I don’t think they really know which direction they are going to take the defense in 2011 so it doesn’t make sense to waste draft picks, even 6 or 7 rounders, on players to fit a scheme you might be dumping in 2012.
My second big shocker is in the first round
1st Round 6th Pick – TRADE WITH MINNESOTA, for the Vikes 1st and 2nd. It sounds crazy and it’s a lot for the Vikes to give up, especially as they have no 3rd rounder due to the Randy Moss trade. But it makes sense in this regard, Minnesota needs a QB. And the crop of QBs this year are so iffy you can’t afford to be blase about it. The Vikes have to get ahead of San Fran so they can draft their guy. Plus, what is that 2nd rounder really going to get them? If they’re going with a new QB this year, they’re taking a step back. They have to be positive that they get THEIR guy in this draft otherwise that process is going to take a long time. So after that the Browns go…
1st Round 12th Pick – Julio Jones WR – This is probably the player the Browns have circled anyway. It’s a real longshot that AJ Green will fall to them at the 6 spot and Julio Jones is projected at number 12. So this deal would make a lot of sense.
2nd Round 37th pick – Jimmy Smith CB – This is the only pick I have going to the Defense in this draft. Sounds crazy but uncertainty about what the Browns are going to do moving forward makes any DE, DT, or LB pick a real gamble. The Secondary remains the same regardless of the front you play so Smith is a safe choice and he fills a need. Maybe the Browns look at a nickel corner in the later rounds but I think it’s offense all the way after this
2nd Round 43rd pick – Anthony Castonzo OT – Castonzo has played both right and left tackle. He can start immediately and seal up the Browns’ sieve like right side.
3rd Round 70th pick – DJ Williams TE – Pass catching TE’s are the lifeblood of the West Coast Offense. If Williams is gone by this pick, Luke Stocker is another possibility.
