The Steelers are known for physical play, strong defense, and a solid running game. Recently they have improved their wr corps so they have a viable passing attack. The passing game is now more respected than the running game.
One method of approach to the upcoming Steelers/Jets AFCC game:
Speed and Deception:
The Jets focus on the Steelers has them concerned on the passing ability of Big ben. The Jets are confident of their ability to stop the Steelers running game. They are focused on the wrs the Steelers use. Mainly Mike Wallace and Hines Ward. Rex Ryan knows how much of a problem Hines Ward can be. When he is not catching the ball, he is blocking for his teammates. Hines was a QB for Georgia who also ran the ball and played WR. He has been a go to guy for the Steelers for many years. He is not blessed with top speed, but has an innate knack for being able to get open and extend plays all the way down te field. You must know what Hines is doing all the time. Expect Hines to command the protection services of Revis.
Mike Wallace is known for his speed. he works to get open deep and catch the long pass. He is one of the top receivers in terms of yards after catch. He has not yet developed a reputation for all around receiver with abilities to get openn in any circumstance. Cromarte will be assigned to make sure he does not burn the Jets deep.
Sanders and Brown are rookie WRs who make splash plays for short to medium passes. Seldom are they a threat to get the deep pass.
The Jets have the number 3 rated defense. They pride themselves in limiting running plays and in shutting down the most potent of WRs. They have three excellant CBs in Revis, Cromarte, and Wilson. Wilson is a rookie and is the most suspectable for the skills of Big Ben. The problem the Jets have is the number of weapons the Steelers have to go to. Besides the WRs mentioned above, the Steelers will have a passing threat of of Heath Miller (TE), Antwan Randle El (ARE), and Matt Spaeth. ARE is also known for special plays where he is the QB.
What to Expect
The Steelers will try to develop an early lead and force the Jets to play catch up. They will start with long passes to Wallace and Sanders, an d mix inrunning plays to Rashard Mendenahll and Issac Redman. The idea is to force the jets to respect the long pass, while having to protect the running game. This will open up the short to medium passing plays and give Miller and Brown opportunities to advance down the field. Matt Spaeth will be used with Issaac Redman in short yardage situations. In duress situations, the go to players will be Melwede Moore, Hines Ward, and Heath Miller.
The overall game plan will be to catch the Jets with deep passes, and control the time of possesion. The Steelers defense will pressure Mark Sanchez and try to make him make mistakes. Late in the third quarter the stakes will be increased. n Aarron Smith will be brought in to spell Ziggy Hood as DE. LO. Timmons will push through the inside of the Jets Oline, while Lamarr Woodley and James harrison pressure from the outside. The Jets will be forced to bring in TEs and OTs to protect Sanchez at the expense of downfield passing attack. With a play from behind requirement, The Jets running game will not be used in the later 3rd quarter and the 4th quarter.
End result will be a Steelers victory, score 28 Steelers to Jets 14
