DAYTONA 500 FROM MY EYES

nascarlogo
The Daytona 500 is the Super Bowl of Nascar. It sets the tone and the expectations for certain drivers for the remainder of the season. In a sense it can make or break drivers.

What does it mean to me? It is a very special race to me because I never truly watched Nascar till 2001 when Dale Earnhardt died. I guess in a sense, I can thank him for getting me to watch it. In the years since then, I have gone to every race at Texas Motorspeedway and sprinkled a few other tracks in there as well…Las Vegas Motorspeedway, Fontana and one of my most memorable trips, the 2004 Daytona 500. It was the latter where Dale Earnhardt Jr won and where we had dinner with Dale Jr after the race and Breakfast the next morning with him for the induction of the winning car into the museum.

I am very passionate about my favorite driver. And I have grown enough to know that not everyone likes him. I love Jeff Gordon and I appreciate what he does on and off the field. I also love Nascar in general and I like a lot of the drivers, of different teams. I am not trying to be a band wagon fan, I just love the sport.

This is already shaping up to be a great season. We have upcoming drivers like Trevor Bayne earning his respect from veteran drivers like Jeff Gordon. We have Brian Keslowski (Brad Keslowski’s older brother) making such a great impression and gaining such a good fan base that he got a sponsor.

I am in North Carolina now and will be attending the Coca Cola 600, the longest race of the season. I am right in the middle of Nascar country, a dream come true for someone like me.

Well, time for me to shut up cause it’s time to pull those seat belts tight and Boogity, Boogity Boogity…Let’s go racing Boyz!!!
