Fantasy Hockey ONE: A Cut Above (3/13)

This is not like going into super sabermetrics next level. A Cut Above takes a statistic from a completely different angle than normal and breaks it down with a precision of a Rolex watch. We start with a simple premise of a nice and easy traceable stat and then go a little further than most. What on Earth can sometimes we do when suddenly a player becomes a home pariah but a road savior? In the NHL, this happens a bit more than most think.
It is time to take a look at home and road goal differential today. There is nothing more frustrating than to see a player that is expected to feast on home cooking but then he does not do so. Yes it really is true that Alex Ovechkin has only one power play goal in the last year at home. It is a statistic that just boggles the mind. These are the types of numbers that we spotlight. So if you do not mind, it is time to dig and dig we will.
Who is first on our spotlight this afternoon? Steven Stamkos is our first candidate on the block. Hey he only is the leading goal scorer in the National Hockey League. In 33 games, Stamkos has an astonishing 23 goals while he has 20 goals at home in 36 contests where the cooking is better. Using the slide rule and abacus, Stamkos averages 0.70 goals per game on the road and only 0.56 goals per game at home. That is a difference of .14 and is more than noticeable. We use a + or – .05 as a baseline then work our way from there.
