Why I will miss football if the mess isn’t cleaned up!

Football is like baseball, I can watch almost any game and enjoy it. Watching someone beyond the Celtics or Bruins is semi-sacriligious in their sport! Yet, the Patriots have been such a credit to the league that the interest in who we were playing next week or just the general non-ambivalence to the game of football to a guy who didn’t play high school football so he could concentrate on hockey, there brings a whole host of imagination to a 5’4″ arm chair quarterback.

In New England because of success over the years, interest is incredibly high! The draft is a big deal! Any and all rumors about player movement or shall we say, free agent signings are ripe at any time for the media to present to the public!

With the Bruins in the middle of the draft today and New England high with Stanley Cup fever, the euphoria may not end this summer, if they all come back ten pounds overweight, we’ll know why! Yet, back to football and our reigning champs, the Pittsburgh Steelers, a beginning question mark without “Big Ben” Roesthlingberger because of misconduct allegations stemming from a bar incident with a college aged girl!

Football is like any other sport, people play to win and for six games, Charlie Batch, with chewing gum and chicken wire held it together before Ben came back but everyone involved took hits. It was a win that wasn’t tarnished exactly but Ben, his teammates, coaches, and the league in general understood that it was time to grow up.

Football is a great game to watch at forty-two years-old. Many fans are praying that this lockout ends and the boys of fall line up for the coin toss this year! Personally, the largest part of me wants to see Eli and Tom go at it again just for old time sake in the Superbowl! The Giants only had one fat head to win the game for them!

That’s the difference between football and everything else, you’re tailgating and snow on your helmet in December, if you play real football, not West Coast!

Whatever, religion you are and do it peacefully, please pray for football this year! Maybe a little, what I call Lord Time, can’t hurt! Mike Maloni
