“The Stack” 8-11-11
Hello everyone and welcome to today’s “The Stack” with me, Nathan Stacken. With the PGA Championship getting underway today and baseball news, there is plenty of stuff to talk about today, so let’s see what made today’s “stack”:
1. PGA Championship begins.
The 93rd PGA Championship beings today from the Atlanta Athletic Club and the golfer who everyone has their eyes on is Tiger Woods. Yes, he didn’t do that well in the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational, but Woods has a knack for playing well in majors. He seems confident that his knee is fully healthy and that he can play at a high level. He was very calm in his press conference yesterday, especially regarding questions concerning his former caddy Steve Williams, who is now Adam Scott’s caddy. The antics that Williams’ pulled last week were not classy and while he has since appologized, still shouldn’t be taken without a grain of salt. Looking towards this major, I saw an interview with Ian Baker-Finch yesterday on ESPN’s PTI, and Baker-Finch expects that with the course longer, that someone who can hit the ball long and a young golfer who can handle the heat will win the tournament. I wouldn’t count out Rory McIlroy. I’ve been on his bandwagon all year. No sense to give up now. But, I preditct Adam Scott will win this major or at the very least, be in contention Sunday. With Williams as his caddy, I expect great things from Scott. I hope Tiger is in the running on Sunday because that will make for great television. But, until Tiger wins, I don’t have a lot of faith in him. Either way, this tournament should be great and will be interesting to see who fairs the best in the conditions and who fairs the best with regards to the course, because it will be tough.
2. NCAA football news.
With school right around the corner, that means college football practices are in full swing and there is some interesting news from the college football world that needs to be passed along. First:
Ohio State gets another letter on the probe from the NCAA regarding their football program. Some thought that when the NCAA decided that the sanctions that Ohio State levvied against themselves, that it would be alright. Perhaps that is not the case. The Buckeyes could face more sanctions and stiffer penalties. There is still more the NCAA is investigating regarding the Buckeyes’ football program, which is not good at all for the school or even the Big Ten.
