It’s amazing to me how much Roy Oswalt has become an afterthought in the Philadelphia Phillies rotation. This is Roy Oswalt we are talking about. Since 2005, only seven pitchers have a higher WAR than Oswalt. We aren’t talking about some ham n’ egger off the streets.
Oswalt has been an afterthought because he has been in and out of the Phillies’ rotation and hasn’t pitched like the Oswalt we have known in the past. However, after his Saturday start against the Washington Nationals, it looks like Oswalt has turned back the clock and regained the form that has made him one of the top pitchers since he entered the league in 2001.

Oswalt had his best start of the season on Saturday night as he dominated the Nationals for eight innings. He scattered eight hits, didn’t allow a run, walked just one, and struck out nine in the 115-pitch effort.

In the 115 pitches he threw, Oswalt got a season-high 16 swings and misses. His previous high was 12 back on April 21 against the San Diego Padres. Oswalt got the majority of swings and misses on his fastball, which was the key pitch for him on Saturday night.
