Cowboys Observations
Just gonna start stringing them off here, all the Boys fans at SJ might find some things they’ll agree with/disagree. Feel free to comment or add your own:
-Romo: gave it away with two unbelievable mistakes and a slew of smaller ones in the 4th. 1) Trying to go with the kill shot by diving up the middle is admirable, if you’re Earl Campbell and never fumble the rock. When you can get a Field Goal though, go up by 10 and force the Jets to make TWO scoring drives as opposed to one? Come on man, if we get 3 points there you’re simply trying to get a first down at the end to run the clock out, instead of:
2) Failing to realize that the Jets feigned man and went zone, and then throwing one of the worst picks we’ll ever see. There’s a GREEN man in front of Dez. WHY. Unless Romo wins a conference title game or super bowl with a clutch 2 minute drill score he’ll get all the hate, last night didn’t help his cause.
-Penalties: It seems to me like Rob Ryan’s defense played far more disciplined ball, worst offenses were an offsides and encroachment. Dumb to be sure, put beats all the PI’s and dumb personal fouls we used to give up. The offense though…sack, false start, delay of game. It’s 3rd and Holy Shit. Way to kill a drive.
-Dez Bryant: Is a monster who keeps getting hurt. That’s probably the last we’ll see of him doing returns. Harris didn’t fumble last night and that’s all we’ve wanted lately given how muff happy the Boys usually are. Morons on ESPN are talking about how Dez is out of shape and quit in the 2nd half. Um, Revis also cramped up in the 3rd and Dez was playing hurt as well. I GUARANTEE those same dumb asses would turn around and call Dez a pansy for not playing hurt IF he had sat. Haters gon’ Hate.
And Dammitt GARRETT: Why the hell do you think Dez Bryant with a busted leg is going to be effective against Revis? Are we so arrogant? Where’s Ogletree? Bennett? Phillips? We have other options correct? If a player’s not capable of doing his job, TAKE HIM OUT.
Jason Witten: Was earning that cash last night. Had that stupid offensive PI at the end there but catching for 100 yards is far and above what a team should need from their starting TE to be successful.
Our Offensive Line: Looked overwhelmed early, but later on in the game they began to get it together in pass protection. 4 Sacks is pretty crappy though when up against a team that doesn’t have a strong pass rush. It was nice seeing them get outisde on running plays though, and Tyron Smith looked damn good in the 2nd half.
Jason Hatcher: Tried to cover Ladainian Tomlinson….L.T. Rob your D did well considering the circumstances but let’s not do that shit again.
The Cornerback Situation: If T-New doesn’t come back this week we’re in for another long day in the passing game. Jenkins and Ball will be the starters, and that’s provided Jenkins is ready to go. He got absolutely killed by Burress on that block, but came back and made a damn good tackle on a swing out. It bugs me how injury prone he is, but for once I can’t harp on his effort. If Jerrah doesn’t address this position heavily next off-season he’s got his head in the sand.
DeMarcus Ware: 2 QB Sacks from the wolf, and plenty of pressure for a good portion of the night. If only the rest of our team could be as consistent as this guy. There was also a nice heads up play from Spencer on his sack, and obviously big ups on the sack fumble by the youngin’. We should be able to create some havoc in Week 2 considering the matchup.
Sean Lee: Is a machine, albeit one we’re worried might still be prone to breaking. He reminds me of Dexter Coakley, in that he’ll make PLAYS. If Bruce Carter is even close to what Lee looks to be, we’re in good shape at ILB for a while.
Elam and Sensebaugh: I didn’t hear their names called much. Good in that they didn’t allow deep bombs for scores, bad in that they didn’t make many plays. After last season though i can sorta live with that. They clearly need more time to get that scheme down and how to adjust in situations like last night’s injury issues.
Felix/Murray/Choice: Didn’t do much at all but the Jet’s Run D is top 3 so take it for what it is. Felix had some nice extra efforts to gain yardage and firsts when he could…Tashard Choice…ain’t a short yardage back. I know Felix came out and it was a 3rd and 1 situation..but just play action pass to Witten and save us all the grief Jason.
Special Teams Coach Joe D: Reminds me of the Cowboys in general, excels in areas they normally suck then finds a stupid way to blow it all to hell. our kick coverage was fantastic, Bailey made his field goal…and then a blocked punt? Put 4 men in front of McBriar like they do in college or SOMETHING. Beuhler, your only job is to kick touchbacks. Why did 3 of your kickoffs not even make the end zone? You’ve got 5 extra yards to work with this year man.
