“The Stack” 9-20-11

stack_attack4Hello everyone and welcome to today’s “The Stack” with me, Nathan Stacken. Let’s put a bow on week two of the NFL and find out what else made today’s shortened “Stack” right now:

1. Giants beat Rams on MNF.

It was a rather sloppy game, but the New York Giants were able to avoid an 0-2 start by beating the St. Louis Rams 28-16. The Rams are 0-2 for the fifth straight year. They made plenty of mistakes. The Rams had eight penalties and a few costly turnovers, including one that went back for a Giants defensive touchdown. To be fair, the Rams were down a few starters including RB Steven Jackson and WR Danny Amendola. The Giants, while they have a good defense, have their own issues on offense. When they run the ball more than 20 times, they win a lot more than they lose. They should do that. Eli Manning struggled a little bit last night, throwing a couple of interceptions and only 200 yards. He lost WR’s Mario Manningham and Domenik Hixon with injuries during the game and Hakeem Nicks was not at full strength. They have a big game with the Eagles on Sunday. I just don’t think the Giants have the team to compete for the NFC East crown.

2. Mariano Rivera gets save record.

In a make-up game from earlier in the season, the New York Yankees beat the Minnesota Twins 6-4, but the story is all about closer Mariano Rivera, who recorded his 602nd career save, a baseball record. It was a nice celebration afterward with Rivera standing on the mound and looking all around as the fans cheered. He deserves it. No one has had as filthy of stuff as a closer as Rivera did. For years, every time he entered the game, you knew it was over. When Enter Sandman came on at Yankee Stadium, you may have just as well shut off the TV, because he was as dominant as any pitcher in the game. Rivera is a class act and is one of the best Yankees of all-time. Congrats to him on the save record. I think this record can be broken, but it won’t be for a long time.
