“The Stack” 10-6-11
Hello everyone and welcome to today’s “The Stack” with me, Nathan Stacken. Today is not as stacked as our posts normally are. We will once again have our NFL week five picks tomorrow, but now let’s see what made today’s “Stack”:
1. Cardinals win, force game 5 in Philly.
The St. Louis Cardinals got into the playoffs on the last day of the season and they are not about to leave. David Freese had as good a game as you could have with elimination on the line. He doubled in the fourth bringing in Lance Berkman and Matt Holliday to give the Cardinals a 3-2 lead. Freese added to that lead in the 6th when jacked a two-run homerun to give the Cardinals a 5-2 lead. He also had a couple of nice catches in the outfield. The Cardinals needed someone to step up and Freese was that guy. But now, they have to go back to Philadelphia for game five. It will be a good pitching matchup too, featuring Chris Carpenter against Roy Halladay. All of the pressure is on Philadelphia. With that pitching staff, you shouldn’t lose in the NLDS, especially against a wild card team. St. Louis has nothing to lose. Expect them to come out loose when the two teams meet on Friday. It should be a great game and great atmosphere in the city of brotherly love.
2. Diamondbacks breeze by Brewers, force game 5.
So much for me thinking Randy Wolf would have a little more success than Joe Saunders. The Diamondbacks got seven runs in three innings and cruised to a 10-6 win over the Brewers. Ryan Roberts hit a grand slam for the Diamondbacks and Chris Young hit two home runs, the first two-homerun game in Diamondbacks postseason history. Now we head back to Milwaukee for the decisive game five. Just like the Phillies having all of the pressure on them to win, the Brewers are in the same boat. The Diamondbacks are playing with house money. The Brewers had a lot of expectations heaped upon them for the postseason and if they lose Friday, it will be a huge disappointment. Ian Kennedy will take the mound for the Diamondbacks against Yovani Gallardo Friday at 5:07 ET on TBS. I’ll take the Brew crew to win in what hopefully will be a good game. The fans will be rocking.
