“The Stack” 10-13-11

tigers_g_mlHello everyone and welcome to today’s “The Stack” with me, Nathan Stacken. It’s a shorter stack of stories today, we’ll have our NHL preview tomorrow. So let’s take a look at the stories that made today’s “stack”:

1. Rangers one win away from World Series.

Tell me if you have heard this one before. A Rangers-Tigers playoff game delayed by rain. A Rangers-Tigers game that goes into extras tied 3-3. A four-run inning in which Nelson Cruz is the big hero. Yep, sounds like de ja vu all over again. The Texas Rangers beat the Detroit Tigers 7-3 in eleven innings last night, in large part thanks to Cruz’ three-run homerun that capped off a four run eleventh. Mike Napoli gets credit for the game-winning run. It was his single that scored Josh Hamilton to give the Rangers a 4-3. The game may have not gone to extras if it hadn’t been for Brandon Inge who hit a solo shot for the Tigers to tie the game 3-3 in the bottom of the seventh. The Tigers are now on the brink of elimination and will send their ace to the mound. Justin Verlander will go against Rangers top pitcher C.J. Wilson. First pitch is scheduled for 4:19 ET on FOX. With all of the pressure mounting, it’s Verlander’s time to step up and I think he will. Not saying the Tigers will win the series, but they will force the series to go back to Texas.

2. Cardinals edge Brewers to take 2-1 series lead.

It must have felt good for the Cardinals to be back home. The Cardinals jumped on Yovani Gallardo, scoring four runs in the first inning that would hold up in the Cardinals 4-3 win over the Brewers. The Brewers got close, drawing within one after Mark Kotsay’s solo shot in the third inning. The Cardinals bullpen was solid, giving up no hits and striking out four in four innings of work. The Brewers couldn’t even muster a runner on base. The Brewers bullpen was good too, giving up only a hit and a walk in three innings of work. In the end though, it is the Cardinals that won and hold the lead in the series. Game four is today with first pitch at 8:05 ET on TBS. Randy Wolf takes the mound for the Brewers against the Cardinals Kyle Lohse. Enjoy the baseball.

3. Lots of upheaval in Boston?
