Cardinals Capitalize On Brewer Mistakes, Take 3-2 Series Lead
If you are the Milwaukee Brewers, you are going to have to have a short memory. You have to take what happened in Game 5 of the NLCS and throw it in the trash quickly.
The Brewers played a sloppy, mistake filled game in Game 5 and now find themselves in a 3-2 series hole in the best-of-seven NLCS. This game was a disaster on so many levels for the Brewers.
Let’s look at their mistakes from this game…
1. Carlos Gomez gets picked off first in the top of the second: Not a big play in the game, but Jaime Garcia doesn’t have the best pickoff move in the world, so it was a bit odd to see Gomez get picked off. I guess this was a sign of things to come.
2. Corey Hart misses Yadier Molina‘s double to right: Yes, Molina’s rope to right was a difficult play, but I feel a Hart could have made that play. If he would have timed his jump better, he makes that play. That was a huge play as that double set up what happened next.
3. Ball goes through Jerry Hairston‘s legs: It’s amazing how quickly you can go from a hero to goat in sports. In the AB before Garcia came to the plate, Hairston made a diving catch to his left off the bat of Nick Punto. Punto hit a shot to third. It was a great play by Hairston.
With runners on second and third, that saved two runs. Unfortunately for Hairston, those two runs eventually came around to score when Garcia hit a ground ball that went through his legs. The ball got on Hairston quickly, but it’s a play he makes 99% of the time.
Instead of getting out of the inning down still 1-0, the Brewers were down 3-0.
