“The Stack” 10-31-11
Happy Halloween! Hope every has a bootiful time tonight. Watch out for the little tricksters and treaters out there tonight. They just want candy, they’re excited. Be careful. It was a scary time for a few teams yesterday. It’s time for some reaction from all of Sunday’s NFL action in today’s “stack”, which starts right now:
Baltimore 30 Arizona 27
Did not see this one coming at all. The Ravens looked downright pathetic in the first half, in all phases. The offense was a disgrace. Special teams gave up a punt return for a touchdown to Patrick Peterson. The defense played pretty good, but still gave up some big plays including a 66-yard reception by Larry Fitzgerald. At half, it was 24-6 Cardinals. What? Something had to be said at halftime in the Ravens locker room, because in the second half, Anquan Boldin and Ray Rice carried the team. Boldin was the go-to guy (of course he wanted to have a great game against his ex-team) and Rice finished the drives, scoring three touchdown runs. Billy Cundiff won the game with a last second field goal. Maybe they fired Cam Cameron at halftime. One things is for sure, the Ravens stole this game. It should never have been this close to begin with. But they found a way to win. Up next: the Pittsburgh Steelers. Can’t have a first half like they did yesterday against the Steelers and expect to win.
Minnesota 24 Carolina 21
The Vikings may have something in quarterback Christian Ponder. The rookie was poised and was clutch when it counted as the Vikings got the win. It only took Ponder two starts to get his first win. Cam Newton was once again his brilliant self, throwing for a career high three touchdowns, but he had two crucial fumbles that led to 14 Vikings points. I will admit, I almost jynxed the Vikings. With it 4th and 15, I said it was good to get a victory and it happened because I was wearing my road whites. Then Newton hooked up with Brandon Lafell for 44 yards. Fortunately for me, Olindo Mare took me off the hook when he missed a potential game-tying 31-yard field goal wide right. The Panthers are competing in just about every game. They’ll get there soon enough. The Vikings look like they have found their foundation at quarterback that could lead to a bright future.
