Fenway Park To Host Hockey Again

There will be an ice rink at Boston’s Fenway Park again this winter, as four teams will face off at the historic ballpark on two Saturday afternoons in January. It won’t be the Boston Bruins, and it has nothing to do with the NHL, but it’s certainly rooted in the 2010 Winter Classic between the Bruins and Flyers at Fenway.

Star-divide

Two college games will be played at the park on January 7, when Hockey East rivals Vermony and UMass face off at 4 p.m. At 7 p.m., New Hampshire will take on Maine at the park. Both games count in the Hockey East standings, and a single ticket gets attendees into both games.

A week later, on January 14, teams that are actually from Boston will play on the ice, as Northeastern takes on Boston College in another Hockey East game. That’ll be at 6 p.m. As the lead in, Catholic Memorial High School will take on Boston College High School at 3 p.m., pending approval from the schools and the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association.

Boston residents will also have the opportunity to skate on the ice for free during the two-week period it will be down on the field at Fenway Park. First on New Years Day and again on January 16, the Mayors office will be hosting the “Community Skate.” More information will be released by the city as the dates approach.
