Miami Marlins Willing To Break The Bank For Jose Reyes

Update: The Marlins have come to terms with Reyes according to Buster Olney. The deal is for six years and $106 million.
The Marlins have now reeled in Heath Bell and Reyes this offseason. I guess the whole “The Marlins aren’t serious players” nonsense has officially come to an end. And it doesn’t appear the Marlins are done. Expect the Marlins to go after Mark Buehrle or C.J. Wilson.
Original Post: Baseball’s Winter Meetings officially start today, but they got off to a hot start last night with the breaking news that the Miami Marlins have offered free agent SS Jose Reyes a six-year, $111 million contract. The news was broken by Enrique Rojas of ESPN Deportes.
It was believed that the Marlins were bidding anywhere from $65 to $90 million for Reyes’ services, so this news is kind of surprising. I mean, talk about bidding against yourself. I don’t there was another team willing to past $90 million for Reyes, but clearly the Marlins want to make sure they land Reyes.
In a corresponding tweet, Joel Sherman of the New York Post says the Mets are out of the Reyes bidding at that price. Not surprised by that. The Mets have some tight pockets these days.
If the Marlins do sign Reyes and it looks like they will, Hanley Ramirez would move to third base.
