Maple Leaf’s coach Ron Wilson tries to pick up first win after contract extension
After announcing his contract extension on Christmas day, Maple Leaf head coach Ron Wilson was looking to pick up his first win against the second worst team in the Eastern Conference (if you hadn’t guessed by now I’m referring to the Carolina Hurricanes.)
Things started off shaky for Coach Wilson as Brandon Sutter scored his eighth goal of the season just 4:15 into the first period. Wilson wouldn’t let this stand and rallied his players during intermission and the Leafs scored a goal in the second period and two more in the first half of the third period (hmm didn’t the same thing happen the game before when the Hurricanes played Pittsburgh?)
But before Wilson could even build some sort of self confidences that his team had the game in the bag Hurricanes captain Eric Staal scored his eighth goal of the season on a partial breakaway just 40 seconds after the Toronto Maple Leafs scored their third goal. Watching from home it seemed like the RBC Center was rocking after that (which is one of the many things I love about the Hurricanes.) Two minutes after Eric Staal scored Zac Dalpe scored his first goal of the 2011 – 2012 season to tie the game at three (shades of Hurricane teams past.)
