“The Stack” 1-3-11

Wow! That can go for a number of things from yesterday. From the firings in the NFL, to the Rose Bowl, to the Fiesta Bowl and so much more, Monday was a fantastic sports day filled with tons of big news and stories. “The Stack” has some of the bigger ones today. Debating whether or not to talk about the NHL Winter Classic today or tomorrow. Find out if we talked about it today along with the other big stories in “the stack” for today, Tuesday, January 3rd:
1. Oregon wins Rose Bowl in a shootout.
To quote my inner Brent Musberger, what a dandy of a grand-daddy bowl game we saw at the 98th Rose Bowl between the Wisconsin Badgers and the Oregon Ducks. Back and forth they went. Each team kept trading blows. Like I thought, Montee Ball was big for the Badgers rushing for 164 yards on 32 carries along with a touchdown. The Ducks explosive offense showed though, more than a few times. Freshman De’Anthony Thomas rushed the ball only two times, but both were big time runs. The two runs went for a combined 155 yards and two touchdowns and one of them, a 91-yard run, was the longest offensive play in Rose Bowl history. Darron Thomas threw three touchdowns for the Ducks. Russell Wilson did his best for the Badgers, going 19-25 for 296 yards and two touchdown, but he had one pick and it was very costly. The Badgers were ahead and the pick led to the game-winning touchdown for the Ducks.
