NFL Draft Net: Will Height Hold Back Russell Wilson in NFL Draft?

2012 NFL Draft prospect, Wisconsin Quarterback Russell Wilson, has many attributes that make him an attractive target for NFL scouts. The arm, mobility, leadership, and those numbers. But there is one thing that is going to hold him back, no matter how much he tries to dismiss it. Size. Five-foot, 10 1/2 inches. Sure, we will hear people mention Drew Brees’ height. But, not everyone around 6 foot is Drew Brees, that is one of the reasons he is seen as exceptional.
“I’ve proven that I can play, and it’s not a factor in my mind at all,” Wilson said. “I get my depth on my drops, I play tall. I have a high, quick release, and I play with rhythm and timing, as you see with Drew Brees all the time. He has a high, quick release and he throws a great ball.”
Wilson has pointed out that he played behind one of the largest offensive lines in football and size was not an issue. But he was not playing against NFL defenses either. Wilson could be a mid round pick, and it’s possible he goes on to have a career as an NFL Quarterback. He certainly does not lack in the confidence department. Ultimately, it will take an NFL team to be as convinced as he is that size doesn’t matter. He is currently impressing at the Senior Bowl, trying to keep up with Boise State’s Kellen Moore.
