SPORTSTATER: 2012 MLB Preview: Texas Rangers

Tell us a better top to bottom lineup in Major League Baseball, seriously, tell us? The Rangers are stacked at the plate and they are a collection of very good hitters for power as well as base hits. They are disciplined, other than right fielder Nelson Cruz none of them comes close to 100 strikeouts. Leadoff man Ian Kinsler is not the typical #1 hitter in a lineup. He gets on base has a little speed but also has plenty of pop in his bat as he tied for the team lead with 32 four baggers in 2011. Now add in the fact he only struck out 30 times in 620 at bats and that means Kinsler is almost usually on the bases somewhere and often. Shortstop Elvis Andrus is very adept at moving him along to set him up for Josh Hamilton and Adrian Beltre to bring Kinsler in. The Rangers don’t have a deep bench but it is more of a reason that they don’t have to. Mr. Ranger Michael Young entering his 12th MLB season all with Texas can play anyone one of the infield positions at any time someone needs a day off. When not in the field he will have his bat in the lineup in the DH role.
