“The Stack” 8-2-12

The Stack is here on this Thursday and there is really not much to talk about apart from the Olympics. Another day, another exciting and entertaining day of Olympic events. A couple of other quick things before we get to the Olympics. First, what a wild game in Arlington last night as the Texas Rangers rallied back to beat the Anaheim Angels 11-10. They trailed 10-7 in the bottom of the 10th, but chipped away with Nelson Cruz hitting a solo homerun. Later in the inning, with the bases loaded a single brought in two more to tie the game and then Elvis Andrus singled in the winning run. This has to feel really good for the Rangers who have been struggling as of late and my be feeling the pressure of how good the Angels have played lately. Big win for them.

And Wisconsin running Montee Ball was the victim of what police are calling an “unprovoked attack” when five men jumped him and started kicking him before witnesses chased him off. He is expected to make a full recovery though it is unclear whether or not he’ll be ready when Wisconsin opens up camp Monday. Now onto the Olympics in “the stack” for today, Thursday, August 2:

Day 5 Olympic highlights

There was quite a bit of news coming from London yesterday as day five of the Olympics commenced. Here are some of the highlights:

Team USA crushed Turkey 89-58 in women’s basketball. They seem to have found their rhythm following a close call with Croatia in the opener.

Misty May-Traenor and Kerri Walsh Jennings lost their first career set in the Olympics yesterday against the Austrian team of sisters Doris and Stefanie Schwaiger, but came back to win 2-1. They are still undefeated in Olympic competition.
