Boston Red Sox: Carl Crawford Wants Tommy John Surgery

After signing a seven-year, $142 million contract with the Boston Red Sox, Carl Crawford has been a huge disappointment. Now in his second season with the team, the outfielder has told those close to him that he wants to shut down his season and undergo Tommy John surgery to repair the torn ulnar collateral ligament in his left elbow.

Crawford is reportedly reluctant to tell the Red Sox of his preference to have surgery because he fears what the backlash will be from team management, teammates and Boston’s fans. General manager Ben Cherington claims he has heard nothing from Crawford regarding potentially having surgery.
