After three years of speculation, fans are still not sure as to whether WBC welterweight titlist will lock horns with former WBO welterweight titlist Manny Pacquiao. Considering the amount of rumours being bombarded on the internet, there are possibilities of both men being in the ring finally. However, as per their officials, the fight is not yet possible.
HBO analyst Larry Merchant spoke about the entire scenario with ESPN.com, believing the mega-bout between Mayweather and Pacquiao is still on hold.
“They’re not talking about [Manny] Pacquiao next, and if it’s not Pacquiao, there are two guys I’m thinking of. One would be Timothy Bradley, or Canelo Alvarez. Those are the two. If Canelo can win on Sept. 15 [against Josesito Lopez], then maybe his next fight would be that huge event, against Mayweather,” said Merchant.
He added, “There are lots of variations. But keep in mind, Mayweather has always picked the guy with first priority being helping him generate the biggest possible pay-per-view audience.”
The reason why fans are no more as interested and thrilled about the fight as they once were is that both the fighters have lost their stint.
