BaseballObsessed: The Things I’ll Never Understand
I’ve had numerous friends come up and bust me about the contract saga with Derek Jeter and the Yankees. I shoot them down by one by one assuring them Jeter will be back in a Yankees uniform, and not a Boston one. After all this is the face of the Yankees. He’s what makes us Sox fans jealous. The thought of him leaving the Yanks is just simply un-American! The Yanks have offered Jeter a three year/$46M contract [...]
More off-season cuts
Despite the short amount of time since the end of the World Series, the baseball world is still turning as team’s are cutting down their rosters to make a run for the hot stove in December. Here’s a few players who survived the first day of cuts, but weren’l so lucky:
Bill Hall, UT; Felipe Lopez, 2B - Red Sox
Kevin Gregg, RP; Miguel Olivo, C - Blue Jays (after he was traded from the Rockies)
Edgar Renteria, [...]
Baseball reflects life sometimes….
I apologize for my brief disappearance, but I’ve been busy getting ready for graduation, figuring out how I’m gonna pay my bills on my limited income, and relationship issues. Quite simply, it hasn’t been all roses here, a lot of questions that need answers.
The season is underway and in full swing. Some teams have found [...]
Ryan Howard extension
By now you’ve heard the Phillies have locked up 1B Ryan Howard to a five year contract worth $125M. If you’re a Phillies fan, you thought you’d never see the day when the team spent money to keep up competitively, but if you’re not a fan, you probably think the Phils made the worst financial [...]
Mets Notes
- Recently, the Mets have really come along. The pitching is solidifying and the hitters are getting on the ball. And excitement–how about the twenty inning marathon with the Cards? This may indeed be the season to believe.
- Prospect Ike Davis finally got his promotion after the team DFA’d Mike Jacobs. Davis got a hit in his debut.
New York Mets Notes
The season hasn’t started off as hoped. Santana was roughed up for five runs a few days ago, which was simply un-Santana like. Mike Jacobs is 1 for 12. Castillo has been injured and Reyes is still rusty.
-Reliever Sean Green hit the DL retroactive as of April 8th.
-Holy cow, has anyone been paying attention to [...]
Red Sox notes
Dustin Pedroia
left a game earlier this week after taking an awkward landing while diving to stop a Denard Span single. X-rays taken today yesterday came back negative. “I rolled my wrist,” Pedroia said. “I’ll take BP tomorrow and then play the next day. That’s it. I’m good. There’s nothing. It’s more spring training [...]
Red Sox notes
- Dice-K’s rehab continues to progress as yesterday he took the mound against minor leaguers. He threw about 40 pitches yesterday and is scheduled for a bullpen session Friday and two innings of a minor league game Saturday according to pitching coach John Farrell.
- SS Jed Lowrie has been diagnosed with mononucleosis. He complained of extreme fatigue and went through a battery of tests. He’s working lightly now.
Thank you
Nomar Garciaparra signed a one day minor league deal with the Red Sox today and promptly retired. After thirteen seasons, the 35 year old decided he “had nothing left in the tank.” Given his last two seasons performance, I can see why. His celebrity status around the majors had almost left as soon as he [...]
Red Sox Prospects
The Red Sox have considerbaly used their minor league system to their advantage the last decade seeing the likes of Jacoby Ellsbury, Jon Lester, Dustin Pedroia, Johnathon Papelbon and Kevin Youkilis to name a few. The Sox certainly haven’t stopped stockpiling talent for the beginning of this decade. Here’s a look at some names to [...]
